2016 COMP Workshop for Undergraduate Students
To provide specific programming for undergraduates, the Computers in Chemistry Division will host a Workshop for Undergraduate Students in COMP at the Spring ACS meeting in San Diego. The focus audience is current junior and senior chemistry and biochemistry majors. Applications are considered on a rolling basis beginning October 1, 2015.
Up to 30 outstanding undergraduate chemistry students will be selected for a series of undergraduate-focused talks during the San Diego meeting. In order for this program to be more accessible to undergraduate students:
With the financial support of the Division and a grant from ACS we are able to pay for the student registration fee for the 30 undergraduate participants. We are not able, however, to support transportation, housing or meal costs. We therefore ask that as part of the nomination process, your institution commit the funds needed to make student participation possible. Selected recipients must be members of the ACS before attending the meeting.
Ideal candidates for participation in this program will be chemistry or biochemistry majors (or in a chemically related field) who meet most or all of the following criteria: they have completed at least one semester of organic chemistry, will be juniors or seniors at the time of the San Diego ACS meeting, and are considering graduate school in a chemistry-related field.
A complete application consists of:
2) a copy of the student's undergraduate transcript (an unofficial copy is adequate),
3) the institutional commitment form completed by department chair or relevant official (included with the application form), and
4) one letter of recommendation from a faculty member who knows well the nominee.
5) Students must also submit their abstract to the COMP Poster Session (deadline 10/12/15).
Applications will start being processed on a rolling basis on Monday, October 1, 2015.
All materials must be mailed or emailed to:
Professor Maria Nagan
Nominees will be notified of the status of their applications by November 15th.
